The Medication Administration class is required by the Department of Health Services (DHS) Division of Quality Assurance (DQA). DHS rule 83.20 will allow personnel who complete the class successfully, to administer medications in a Community Based Residential Facility, under certain conditions. The training covers a wide range of topics. Basic terminology, reference tools, caregiver roles, resident rights, medication administration in CBRF’s, legal and ethical issues, and the Nurse Practice Act are covered in section one. Section two of the training covers medication information. The third section outlines the facility medication administration system. This will include information on documentation, medication errors, ordering, packaging, storing, and delivery to a CBRF. The fourth and final section walks you through the process of administering medications. You will practice the steps of preparing, administering, and documenting a medication. Upon completion of the four sections, you take a final quiz, using your book and notes.
Full payment and registration form must be received to reserve a space. Payment should be made in two checks, one for $100 payable to Lakeview Pharmacy and one for $15 payable to UW Oshkosh. The pharmacy will provide you with the necessary training materials. Participants must attend all training sessions. The training is scheduled for two seven hour days. The requirement is ten hours of instruction. The extra time is allowed for questions, meal breaks, and the final quiz. The final quiz is given on the last day and participants must pass the final quiz with a grade of 90% or higher to pass the class. Anyone who fails the quiz may take it one additional time the same day. Should a participant fail the quiz the second time, they will need to re-register, re-pay, and re-take the class.
Reservations that are cancelled at least two weeks in advance will be refunded. NO refunds will be given if a cancellation is made after that.
